Virus Protection & Security Software
The potential for your home computers to pickup a virus is huge if they are not properly protected. They
come from all manner of sources, from browsing the internet, sharing USB keys you use to transfer files
from one PC to another, unsolicited emails (spam) or from email attachments. Identity theft is on the
increase, your credit card and other details could be taken without you knowing unless you are aware and
protected. Keeping up-to-date with the current threats, software version updates and security is key to
keeping your systems safe - Are you up-to-date ?
It has been estimated that 80% of home users don’t update their anti-virus and security software versions
after the initial installation. Later versions may include new detection methods and without them you are
only protected against previous viruses, worms and trojans.
We supply a service from one of the best Anti-Virus and Security vendors in the world,
‘F-Secure’, called ‘Protection Service for Business’ (PSB). Why would a home user want
a business product ? The answer is simple, if a business trusts its reputation, security
and money on a product to protect its systems then why shouldn’t home users benefit
from the same service. It may also surprise you when it comes to the cost, we can
supply it at a price to suit your pocket as well !

Backup & Recovery of your Home Systems
How many people actually backup their computers ? Not many, we suspect, judging from the amount of
people who pass through our doors with failed computers requiring their important pictures, music and
general files to be recovered. If there is one thing they all learn, backup is a necessary part of looking
after their beloved PC or laptop.
DON’T wait until it’s too late as many people do. It costs you less in time and money in the end !
Remember computer systems are not infallible and the cost of merely replacing the physical parts isn’t
very much compared to the loss of irreplaceable photos, purchased music, general files and data.
We supply the very best in “Bare Metal” disk to disk recovery systems for the home. This means that
should you have a hard drive failure, you don’t need to get someone to rebuild the operating system
software + drivers, reload all your programs, do all the updates and configuration so you can get up and
running again. “Bare Metal” recovery restores the whole system back from the last backup onto any new
or old hard drive, as long as there sufficient space of course. Should the hard drive be larger than the
old one the restore can expand into the new space allowing your computer to use the extra capacity.
Once the inital backup has been taken you can then either schedule extra backups on a regular basis or ...

...when you just have time for a quick backup, it will only backup the parts of your system that have
changed since the last time it was backed up. This is called an incremental backup.
Even though the backup system takes an image of your hard drive you can easily retrieve single or multiple
files from within the backup set so you don’t need to restore the whole drive to get at an important file
you have just over written for instance.
The backup system works best with an extra hard drive to backup to, whether this is an internal spare
drive, an external USB / eSATA drive that you plug in just for backups or a NAS (Network Attached
Storage) on your home network, the choice is yours.
There are many configurable options within the system such as adding encryption and password security
to your backup files and compression to make the backup files smaller. Lastly, if you change your
complete system, upgrade your motherboard or get a new laptop, there is an option to restore your backup
set to your new machine so when it first starts up it will go through the driver installation setup again.
This way you have all your programs installed on your new computer as you had on your old one.
The possibilities are endless so what are you waiting for? Call Us & Get Backing Up !!
Home Networking & Internet
As well as from protecting your home computer, we also provide internet and wireless router security
configuration. We’ll secure your system down as much as possible for you.
Did you know that without properly configured internet and wireless routers you could be letting hackers
into your internal home network. This is often the case with older routers or routers that are initially
setup by some internet service providers to give a very basic level of security called WEP. Without proper
security, you are also open to people using your internet link to browse the internet for free and thus
stealing your connection speed.
If you have two or more computers in your home and regularly transfer files, watch movies, listen to music
from several PC’s at the same time or game between them you may want to consider installing a faster
home network allowing speeds of up to 1-2Gbs (1000-2000mbs) using wired connections rather than the
usual wireless G (54mbs) and even wireless N (300mbs).
Similarly if you have more than one computer in your home you may wish to consider a shared storage unit,
often called a NAS (Network Attached Storage). This provides a shared area for everyone in your home
to store and access pictures, music, movies and general files so which ever computer you use in your home
you can get to the stored files without having to have a separate copy on each computer.
